Another Colorado resort which is a favourite on the ski racing and snow-boarding circuit, Beaver Creek offers fabulous piste skiing as well as off-piste with a suitably qualified guide.

If you are into adventure and setting your pulse-racing, then Jackson Hole's enviable pioneer and cowboy spirit is will suit you perfectly. Jackson is renowned for its epic off-piste and back country skiing, which should only be attempted with a suitably qualified guide, but will give you unforgettable memories. There are lots of pistes for beginners and intermediates, but Jackson is really the best for those looking to stretch themselves whether as a skier or boarder.

An hour's drive from Utah's capital, Salt Lake City, Park City and its sister resort, Deer Valley, and near neighbour of The Canyons offers remarkable skiing on generally uncrowded and beautifully pisted slopes. Deer Valley only recently allowed snowboarders to visit its pistes but has embraced them since. Make use of the chauffeur parking option, where you drive to the bottom station of the lifts, put your boots, collect your skis or board, then leave your car with the valet who will take it away and park it for you. When you come down from your last run, the car will be ready, waiting and nicely warmed up to drive back to your accommodation.

If you believe in the maxim of quality over quantity, then Snowbird and neighbour Alta are definitely your resorts. They are not the largest of Utah's ski areas, but they are certainly amongst their best. An absolute haven for intermediates, and if you are looking for powder, then Snowbird and Alta offer some of the best.

Robert Redford's super-exclusive ski resort is small but beautifully-formed with a great focus on sustainability and eco-friendliness. Lovely accommodation, and ideal for people who want some rest and relaxation rather than the frenetic style of many other resorts.

One of the most popular Coloradan resorts without the glitz and glamour associated with wanting to be seen in Aspen or Vail. However, still a great resort covering every grade.

Along with Aspen, Vail is one of those resorts where the rich and famous want to be seen. This doesn't mean that it isn't welcoming to wintersports enthusiasts on a slightly lower budget. Great shops, restaurants, bars and nightlife complement life on the slopes.
